Birds, Burgers & Dead People
Not all in the same place tho (cause that would be weird and probably not in a good way)
“Do you wonder if heaven is true?” - Love & Rockets
Hiya. Nice little pile of Vermont stuff this week (with a dab of NYC/LA)…..
Birds Of Vermont Museum
My first visit here was on my Vermont PBS show Bardo alongside a Dutch DJ who “loved birds” (he spent $350 on bird tees at the gift shop). There’s some nice trails (no dogs allowed, obvs) and a hall of surprisingly amazing carved decoys that bring full Museum Of Natural History vibes to Huntington. This Saturday is their monthly “monitoring walk” where bird people tell you about bird things. Tweet.
Bessery’s Quality Market
A covid discovery that soon became me and the kiddos favorite burger in Burlington (sorry, Al’s, more on you later though!). House ground meat, solid fries, great buns (!), takeout only- a genuinely delicious burger with a side of a splintery bench to sit on. Little bit of weird points for being sort of hidden on a non-commercial stretch in the New North End… not quite a burger speakeasy (which is a great idea btw)…..
Hope Cemetery
“Oh Barre / Our love holds on” - Steve Perry
Okay that’s not a real quote but it sings well. What is real is that I can’t get enough of Barre these days. So many giant rocks! Barre is known as the “world’s granite capital” (I googled!) so it follows that the 65 acre/10,000 tombstone cemetery here has some exceptionally sculpted memorials. Spooky and gorgeous, weird and wonderful. Check.
Little Island - NYC
I was super hoping to get down here last weekend for the grand opening of the newest entry on the West Side pier park system. THIS PLACE LOOKS AMAZING. If any of you New Yorkers decide to jump into this magical playland please send more pics… Burning Man On-The-Hudson!
Old-but-new-to-me for the next west coast trip: Jazz burger. OMG LA WTF. #ripjonathangold
Have a weird and wonderful week internet friends… love you thank you for reading/sharing/exploring byeeeeee
RM
ps. You’re totally welcome to wish a happy 2nd birthday to my best bud, Sebastian Arsenault-Miller!
Happy Bday, Sebastian!
I have to agree with Jennifer about the bird-person. Feels like it'll show up in a nightmare at some point.
I think we will be heading across the Hudson to the new NYC park in the coming week, so I will take pics if that happens. I also recently did a bike ride past Sybil's Cave in my hometown and it made me think of this forum. (https://www.hobokenmuseum.org/explore-hoboken/historic-highlights/sybils-cave/) - the museum itself is also super interesting. For a town that has a bad rap, we have a lot of cool shit here if you dig around enough.
Happy birthday Sébastien! That bird person is super creepy. Can't wait to try that little market. I hope we can come back to this and find all these cool places. So many to remember!
