Hola fellow weirdos!
Let the greatest falsetto of 1968 take us on a trip to…..
Westford Country Store & Cafe
As you’ll soon realize, I love a good Vermont country store- the wide wobbly century-old floorboards, the cacophonous assault of decades-old products, a cat probably. Westford Store has none of these things (feels a bit shiny in here) but it does have a ripping lasagna lunch. The first time I walked in I spied the newly-minted-US citizen matriarch, arms stretched, making the noodles from scratch. Shit is legit. Don’t sleep on the breakfast sandwiches either, there is at least 1/2lb of ham on the ham, egg and cheese! If you wanna do the whole dealio, chow down in little gazebo out front …. Pizza The Hutt approves!
Alburg Dunes
Total shocker to find this 3/4 mile sandy beach up above North Hero many years ago. Sand sand sand, really gentle break and shallow enough that you can wander out about 50 yards and still have your head above water, read: kid friendly. In the time of un-corono, there’s always a gaggle of Quebecois which makes it feel like the south of France? More Speedos than Leddy Beach!
Oops. This:
Fledermaus Teahouse
A meticulously handcrafted German teahouse off a dirt road in the middle of the woods? Obviously this one is a 10/10 on Weird/Wonderful scale. Some sweet treats, a sweet couple that runs the joint and yet another (sweet) cat. Totally unexpected and double totally delightful. There’s a nice waterfall about 5 mins away too (more on that later). Word is they’re opening in a week or so…..
That’s it for this week. BUT. IMPORTANT SHIT:
‘Tis dialog, not a monolog. My dream is for this whole shebang to be a real deal community. I make no claims of knowledge of all the weird and wonderful happenings in Vermont and beyond- please let me know what you’re feeling on the WW tip- I dream of guest collaborators and co-conspirators cause that’s what this is here for. Feel free to leave a comment below or email me and let’s get weird……
Love you see you soon bye….. RM
Btw: Obsessed.
Speaking of sandy bottoms... the largest toilet seat I have ever witnessed is in the second stall in the women's bathroom at Nancy's Restaurant in Martha's Vineyard. It first surprised and welcomed me about 11 years ago and still serving the public well. Wish I could share these unnatural porcelain proportions via photo..
chasing waterfalls like me? water tasting like wine is far better than the reverse, I believe. this is fun Ryan. Rock on, Missy from Vershire, Vermont
